Mayes, John D.

Abstract Data

A POLITICAL AD "A Miner for a Miner's Job!" A photo of Mayes "I burned a bearing out of my limousine yesterday, and it won't run any more. Henry Ford made it in his auto plant up in Michigan in 1922, and called it a Model T. So I may have to finish my campaign on foot or hitch hiking, but rather than do that I am taking this means of trying to get in touch with all of you. I had rather put up a set of timbers in soft ground than write this ad. I am all hot and bothered now and don't know what to say." "But Here Goes" "I am 53 years old, and have worked in the Tri-State district mines since I was 15 years old. Don't know anything else. Guess I have held every jo there is around the mines. I have worked hard steel to the latest model of drills. I know I am competent and qualified to be your Mine Inspector. I think that all who know me will agree with me on that. I have a wife, and five children to support. I have not worked very steady the last year or two, and have no money to spend in this campaign. Some of my friends are paying for this ad. No mine operator, company or mine corporation has given me one cent in this campaign, nor will I accept any from them. NOW DIGGERS if you will support and nominate me July 3rd, and elect me later, I will stand four-square with you at all times, and try to make you the best Mine Inspector you have every had. Signed John D. Mayes. Note: This may have been the same John D. Mayes that died Mar 17, 1963. See that article.
