Martin, Volley Arby
Abstract Data
About 40 years old, a drill man residing three miles west of Carl Junction Missouri, was killed shortly after 10 o'clock last night when a motor car in which he was riding overturned on a curve on a highway about four miles northwest of Smithfield. Officials at the Hurlbut undertaking company establishment, where the body was taken, said death was caused by internal injuries. Coroner W. G. Hogan will make an investigation this morning. Martin was in the car with another man, believed to be his brother-in-law, Jim Anderson of Strafford Missouri, with whom he had been earlier in the evening. Anderson was on a visit for the Fourth of July. A Hurlbut ambulance driver said the other man, who left a short time after the accident occurred to notify relatives, was uninjured. It was not learned which of the two men was driving. The car careened from the road into an adjoining field. Martin and Anderson, who had been in Joplin Missouri earlier in the evening, had taken members of Martin's family to his home, Martin and Anderson then started to drive to another residence in the vicinity. The body was first taken to Freeman hospital, Joplin Missouri, in a Hurlbut ambulance, which had been summoned to the scene, and hospital attendants pronounced Martin dead before the body was removed to the morgue. Martin, who was born at Hoxie Arkansas, had been a resident of the Carl Junction vicinity about twenty-five years. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Alberta Martin; two sons; four daughters; two sisters, Mrs. Ella May Woods of Weir Kansas, and Mrs. Allie Comstock of Strafford Missouri, a brother, Evert Martin, 423 Pennsylvania avenue, and his father, Richard Martin of Weir.
