115 East D Street, Commerce Oklahoma, died at 5:30pm Wednesday, Dec 25, 1996, at his home after a long illness. He was 64. Mr. Marney was born Aug 3, 1932, in Commerce to Albert Marney and Nellie Marney. He was a lifetime area resident. He received a bachelor's and a master's degree from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg Kansas. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Marney worked for Eagle-Picher Company for 13 years. He taught and coached at Commerce High School for 14 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Commerce. He was ordained a deacon in 1961. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Masonic Lodge, Commerce. Survivors include his wife, Georgia Marney, of the home; a daughter, Ellan Edwards, Beaver; a brother, Nelson Marney, Tulsa Oklahoma; and a sister Mildred Long, Joplin Missouri. The service will be 10 am Saturday, Dec 28, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Moore officiating. Burial will be in G.A.R. cemetery at Miami. Pallbearers will be Art Robertson, Bill Turner, Bud Witten, Gerald Moudy, Bill Crosby, and William Goodman. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 pm tonight at the Jim Thomas funeral home, Commerce. Memorials may be made to St. John's Hospice or to First Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
