Miami, died at 9:10 am, Friday, May 28, 1999, at Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami after a long illness. He was 82. Mr. Maples was born Mar 31, 1917 to John W. Maples and Goldie Pendelton Maples in Billings Missouri. He came to Miami in 1937 from Neosho Missouri. He worked formerly for the Eagle-Picher Company and later with B. F. Goodrich Company he retired in 1979 as produce manager for the Farrier grocery store. Mr. Maples was a member of the First Baptist church of Miami. He married Mildred Imogene Maples on Jul 21, 1935, in Joplin Missouri, and she survives of the home. Additional survivors include three daughters, Mary Helen Hunt and her husband, Bob Hunt, Miami, Billye Spencer and her husband, Robert Spencer, Zea Gannaway, and Diana Gannaway and her husband Steve Gannaway, Joplin Missouri; two sisters, Mrs. Jeanie Stilley and Mrs. Joann Briscoe, both of Neosho Missouri; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 10 am Tuesday, Jun 1, at G.A.R. cemetery in Miami, with the Rev. Gerald Dyer officiating. The family will receive friends at the Cooper-Althouse funeral home chapel from 5 to 6 pm Monday. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
