Leslie, John

Abstract Data

A particularly gruesome accident befell John Leslie, a miner of the Old Abe Mine, on last Saturday night at the Baxter Springs Kansas depot. Leslie was a resident of B-----[could not read the microfilm], and was trying to get a train to go home. The train had come in from Joplin Missouri and must have backed over him as it came back to take water at the tank. Both feet were cut off and one hand was smashed off and the victim died in a few hours. J. A. Perce, the laundry man, and H. F. Reniker were there and saw the body and Mr. Pierce was the first man to see the body. Some people there seemed to think the man, who was in liquor evidently, was killed by the engine when it pulled into the depot.
