Lawrence, Eulys
Abstract Data
born in Galena Kansas on Feb 2, 1896. Married by his grandmother, Susan Ann Sapp McCoy Lawrence Cullor-an ordained minister, to Annie May Ora Simmons on Aug 11, 1915. The Lawrences moved to the Picher Oklahoma area in 1917 to work in the mine fields. They had to live in a tent for a short time until they were able to move into a two room house on South Francis Street, Picher. Two weeks after moving into the house, Blanch Harlin was born. By about 1919 they moved into a larger house at 804 South Francis Street, Picher, and added a bathroom which was rare to the time and area. They raised a family of five daughters, Blanch Irene Lawrence, Treva May Lawrence , Vonda Nadine Lawrence, Lena Neoma Lawrence and Veta Agnes Lawrence, and their only son, Olys William "Bill" Lawrence in this house. Eulys worked as a mill carpenter building derricks above ground. His father, William Washington Frog' Lawrence worked underground in the Admiralty Mine as a ground boss. Michael Lawrence of Joplin Missouri, Frog's brother, owned several Admiralty mines in the area, including the one where Eulys and William worked. Note: A family history, with a photo of Eulys and Annie Lawrence, written by the children.
