Funeral services for Laird, 83, widely known Tri-State drilling contractor, who died at his home in Joplin Missouri, Wednesday night will be held at 10:30 o'clock Friday morning at the first Baptist church with the Rev. A. A. Pugh officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 8 am Friday until the funeral hour. Burial will be in the Fairview cemetery under direction of the Hurlbut undertaking company of Joplin Missouri. Born on St. Patrick's Day, 1861, in Kirksville Missouri, Mr. Laird had lived in Joplin 53 years after moving there from Pleasanton Kansas. Mr. and Mrs. Laird celebrated their fifty-second wedding anniversary two days ago. He was a member of the first Baptist church. Surviving besides his widow, Mrs. Cora E. Laird, are three daughters, Mrs. Raymond F. Ludwig of Joplin, Mrs. Thomas S. Gamble of Chicago Illinois, and Mrs. M. O. Lemons of Tulsa; two sons, Don Laird and A. J. Laird, Jr., both of the home, three grandchildren and a great grandchild. Another grandson, Sergeant Roland F. Ludwig, was killed in action on Aug 20, according to a recent announcement by the War Department.
