Approximately 150 miners of the district attended the meeting in Baxter Springs Kansas. Harry King of Commerce Oklahoma, an ore hauler for the Eagle-Picher Company explained the purpose of the new union to the assembly. It is also planned to present the signed petitions to the national labor board asking that an election be conducted to determine if the new union is to be sole bargaining agent for the mining company employees.

Harry E. King, 56, 220 South Maple Street, died at 1 o'clock Thursday morning at the Muskogee Veterans hospital, where he had been a patient since Wednesday. He had lived in Ottawa county Oklahoma most of his life and for the past 29 years had resided in Commerce. He had been employed by the Eagle-Picher Company until the last year and a half when he had to retire for his heath. King was elected to the city council for one term in 1957 and was a member of the Commerce Christian church, serving as Sunday school superintendent for several years. He was also a World War II veteran. Survivors include the widow, Flossie King of the home; one son, Kenny King of the home; one brother, Carl King of Vinita Oklahoma; one step-sister, Norma Jean Price of California; and his grandmother, Mrs. Lilly King of Montebello California.
