James W. Keys, 54, pioneer mining man in this district, died at 6:20 yesterday evening at the American hospital at Picher Oklahoma, following a paralytic stroke about 2:30 yesterday afternoon at a mining lease several miles west of Picher. Mr. Keys, who with his family, lived at the Main hotel here, came to this immediate district in 1912 from Aurora Missouri, where he had lived since an early age. The mining man had been active in opening several mines in the Joplin Missouri and Picher district. He had since been active in this field and was holding several leases, it is said, at the time of his death. Mr. Keys is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gladys Keys; a 4 year old daughter, Gloria Jane Keys; two sons, Louis Keys of Miami and John Keys of Oklahoma City; a brother, Albert Keys of Los Angeles, and a sister, Mrs. Julia Shaber, also of Los Angeles. Funeral services will be at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon at the Baptist church. The Rev. Grover Scales of the Baptist Church, will speak. The body will lie in state at the Main hotel from 9:30 tomorrow morning.
