born in Hornsey England in October 1904 to Walter Jones and Henrietta Miller Jones. He was of Welsh descent...his first language was Welsh...In the 1920's and early 1930's he supervised mines in several locations in Africa, including the "Gold Coast" where he mined for gold and diamonds...He headed up mining operations in Indonesia and the Andes in South America, where the mines produced copper, silver, platinum, tin, lead, zinc, and manganese...he married an English girl, Doreen Deneraux. With the outbreak of World War II, he was sent to America to use his mining expetise in providing metals to Britain to be used in the war effort... Jones made Joplin Missouri his home since 1941...Some years later the marriage ended in divorce. In 1951, he married a Joplin Missouri girl, Evelyn Milligan, noted area wide as a writer, historian, and storyteller. In 1962 Evellyn wrote Tales about Joplin, Short and Tall, plus other things...Evelyn died in Mar 1978, and was buried in Ozark Memorial Park cemetery, where the marker on her grave bears the AFS slogan, "Walk together, talk together. Then, and then only shall ye have peace." Phil continued his work as metallurgist and mining consultant, and his...ranging interest in books, history, Biblical research, church architecture, art and writing...In May 1981, Phil married Elizabeth "Betty" Hamilton...In 1992 a blood clot resulted in the amputation of Phil's right leg.
