Galena, Kansas Orville Edward Johnston, 87, 2117 Main Street, died at 2:40 a.m., Thursday, August 24, 2000, at his home following an illness. Mr. Johnston was born Jan 24, 1913 at Joplin Missouri. His parents were William Johnston and Clora Gilbert Johnston. He had moved to Galena Kansas in 1959 from Granby Missouri. He worked as a hard rock lead and zinc miner. He was also an ordained minister. He pastured a number of area churches, including the Freewill Baptist Church, Picher Oklahoma, [1950-52] and Empire Mission, Galena [1975]. He also worked as an Evangelist, and in various other ministries. He was married to Ira Fern Wolgamott on Aug 16, 1941, in Granby Missouri. He later married Laura Bell Arms on Oct 9, 1970, at Elyria Ohio. She died Dec 14, 1991. Surviving is one son, Edward Johnston, Derby Kansas; four daughters, Corlee Shallenburger, Elsie Foster, and Mary Jane Johnston all of Galena, and Connie Courtney, Joplin Missouri; one stepson, Frankie E. Smith, Elyria Ohio; four step-daughters, Bernadine Adkins, Winifred West Virginia, Helen Zenbauer, Galena, Judy Petty, North Ridgevil1e Ohio, and Sylvia Phares, Elyria Ohio; 26 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., Sunday, August 27, at Derfelt funeral home, Galena. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 28 at Derfelt funeral home. Rev. Jeff Martin wil1 officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery Ga1ena. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
