Joe Hutts, well-known Miamian, died unexpectedly at his home, 9 B Street southwest, at 2:45 o'clock Saturday afternoon. He was 71 years old. He had been active in the mining district for the past 32 years, during which time he had resided here. As a mine shaft contractor, Mr. Hutts sank the first shaft at Hattonville Oklahoma, now Commerce Oklahoma, when this section of the Tri-State field was first opened. For many years afterwards he was an active contractor, sinking many shafts in this vicinity. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Etta Hutts; one daughter, Mrs. Erma Ott of McCamey Texas; three sons, Melvin K. Hutts and Joe Hutts, Jr., of Miami, and Gail Hutts of Vinita Oklahoma, and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be announced by the Cooper funeral home.

Funeral services for Joe Hutts, well-known Miamian who died here Saturday afternoon, will be held at the First Baptist church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. H. E. Kirkpatrick officiating. Pallbearers will be John A. Robinson, Walter Young, Walter Jenkins, Charles Fox, George L. Coleman, Jr., and Erben Mabon. Honorary pallbearers are Lloyd Newton, Bob Robards, W. Beechwood, W. W. Dobson, W. S. Harned, George Karleskint, Dr. M. M. DeArman, George Bomford, Roy Wills and B. A. White, and Dr. Felix Adams and Russell Gilette of Vinita. Burial will be in the G.A.R. cemetery at Miami under direction of the Cooper funeral home.
