56 year old Picher Oklahoma miner, died at Miami Baptist hospital shortly afternoon Saturday of injuries received about midnight Friday when he was struck by an automobile at Picher. Howard Scott of Columbus Kansas, driver of the car, was not held responsible by police for the accident, which occurred on North Connell avenue near the Whitebird school. Picher police and under-sheriff Milt McCullough and deputy sheriff Roy Denman investigated. Hopkins, who was walking along the pavement toward his home, was struck by Scott returned from the Cortez Mine, north of Picher. The victim was first taken to the American hospital at Picher by Scott and later removed to the local Miami hospital in a Todd ambulance. A Miami physician said Hopkins received a fractured skull, deep lacerations over the left eye and on the chin and a compound fracture of the left leg, below the knee. Hopkins was an employee of the Slim Jim Mine. He was a thirty-second degree Mason, having been a member of the Washburn Missouri lodge, and also of the consistory at Fort Scott Kansas. Surviving are his wife, Marie Hopkins; two stepsons, Harry Holmes of Picher and Cecil Holmes of Kansas City; one step-daughter, Mrs. Irene Birges of Kansas City, and his mother, Mrs. Mary Hopkins of Waco Missouri. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The Durnil funeral home is in charge.

Funeral services will be held at the Baptist church in Picher at 2:30 Tuesday. The Rev. Lou Love of Galena Kansas, will officiate. Masonic rites will be held at the grave with the Ottawa lodge No. 478 in charge. Burial will be in the Fairview cemetery at Joplin Missouri under the direction of the Durnil funeral house.
