Holbert, Harry H.

Abstract Data

An investigation into the suicide of Harry H. Holbert, mining engineer at Picher Oklahoma, early Monday morning, failed to throw any definite light on the cause of the act. Friends of the dead man believed he was temporarily insane through worry and belief he was in serious financial troubles, though he was reputed to be fairly well fixed. There is also a hint of a woman in the case, but those who knew Holbert best gave this no credence. Deceased was a native of Port Huron Michigan, and had been in the Picher mining field about seven or eight months. He was well known and liked at Picher. He was a quiet man. He made no intimates, and talked little about himself or his affairs. He was a sister residing in New York. County attorney Ray McNaughton, who made an investigation of the case, got into communication with her at Port Huron; and her husband is due to arrive in Miami, Tuesday night to take charge of the body. He was on his way east from the coast, and was advised of his brother-in law's death by wire. He communicated with Mr. Naughton from Wichita Kansas, Tuesday morning, and announced that he was on his way to this city. Holbert, from all that can be learned of him, was well connected. He was a graduate of Michigan University and a man of unusual ability in his profession.
