who becomes assistant mining inspector next January, isn't new by any means to the mining game. Joe, 41 year old former county officer, has had nearly 20 years of experience underground. Even now he is working a night shift, but on top, at the Evans-Wallower Golden Rod Mine No. 4. Hobson, who succeeds Ivan Fisher, who didn't seek re-election after three consecutive four year terms. Resides at Cardin Oklahoma. He began his mining career at Carterville Missouri, in 1916, working in a mine where the late Newt Keithley, father of N. A. Keithley, the University of Tulsa football star, served as ground boss. From 1924 until 1931, the new mining inspector worked for the Interstate Mining Company, being employed as ground boss at the Woodchuck Mine, near Cardin. Married, Hobson is the father of a 13 year old boy, Donald Lee Hobson. During 1937-38, Joe was a deputy sheriff under former Sheriff Walter L. Young. Then he worked as a state game ranger for one year and in 1940, was named county tag agent, a position he relinquished before the end of that year. "While I've been going around some over the mining field, I haven't had time yet to do a whole lot about my new job," Hobson explained. "I figure on working at the Golden Rod Mine until around Christmas." A life-long Democrat, the inspector was born at Granby Missouri He was nominated from a field of four candidates last July and had no opposition in the November general election.
