79 years old, pioneer resident of Cardin Oklahoma, and for 30 years an employee of the old Commerce Mining and Royalty Company, died at 11:10 o'clock last night at his Cardin home. He had been in ill health for the last two months. Hodson, a driller, worked some in recent years for the Eagle-Picher Mining and Smelting Company. Surviving are a son, Verlin Hodson, of Baxter Springs Kansas; a daughter, Mrs. Blanche Forsythe, also of Baxter; a sister, Mrs. Jennie Harvey of Riverton Kansas, and a brother, E. B. Hodson of Maywood California. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Hoskins chapel at Baxter. The Rev. H. Ellis Ogden will officiate. Burial will be in the Quaker cemetery at Quaker Valley, north of Riverton. Note: Mr. Hodson operated the traction steam engine homemade rig used for drilling by the Commerce Mining and Royalty company for about 25 years. The rig was painted blue and from a distance the rig looked like a long necked goose. It was called the 'Blue Goose' and one of the largest mines/mill got its name from this rig. The mine was called the Blue Goose Mine and the mill had a very large goose paint on the side.
