well known painter and decorator, died Oct 21, 1923, age 68, at the Picher Oklahoma hospital at 2:30 o'clock Sunday morning from the effects of a stroke of paralysis received while at his home at Fourth and Connell avenue, Picher, Saturday forenoon. Until Saturday Hayes had been in apparent good health and worked. He was caretaker of the A. Beese properties. He was reared in Chicago Illinois and had been a resident of Picher almost continuously since the pioneer days. Hayes is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rose Hayes; seven daughters and one son; Mrs. Bessie Jackson, Miss Catherine Hays, both of Mason City Iowa; Mrs. Mary Stanton, Los Angeles California, Mrs. Ella Insolato, Chicago; Mrs. Margaret Block, Chicago; Mrs. Stella Ralston, Picher; Miss Daisy Mayes and James W. Hayes, both of Picher. Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Todd undertaking company at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning. Burial will be Oct 23, 1923, in the Miami G.A.R. cemetery.
