Hayes, "Curley"
Abstract Data
Boasts of Champion Whittler - "Art for art's sake," as the lamented and bereaved Elbert Hubbard puts it, has found a devout disciple in 'Curley' Hays, track man at Picher Mine No. 7, Picher Oklahoma, whose hobby is whittling. Hays' friends are ready to back him financially against the champion of Arkansas at any time. An example of his handicraft in the form of 52 fans carved from a single piece of wood, are on display in the window of J. Frank Carlock, a druggist at 114 Main Street, Picher Oklahoma. Hays has began to carve another one with 100 fans on it.
