Abstract Data

a native of Ireland, age 33 years, died at the county jail, Friday about 9 o'clock a.m., after about eight days incarceration, of hemorrhage of the lungs. He came to Joplin Missouri from St. Louis Missouri and failing to find work there, drifted to the Miami camp, emaciated, broke and fatally ill. He made his entry into the city from Commerce Oklahoma by a call at Dr. Doan's residence to ask for something to eat. He was received and cared for by Dr. Doan, but while there had an hemorrhage and nearly succumbed. The doctor took him to county jail when he had sufficiently recovered, where he could receive some care and proper food. For eight days he lingered, hovering between life and death, and in silence, having frequent bleeding spells. He died, as stated above, and was buried by the county in the Potters field, Friday afternoon by Millner and Fribley, undertakers. Nothing was learned of his antecedents or history. He was too weak to talk and on the verge of dissolution from the time he entered the jail.
