Gordon, Richard R.

Abstract Data

43 year old Quapaw Oklahoma miner, died in the Picher Oklahoma hospital at 5 this afternoon of injuries received when the Ford car in which he was riding was struck by an electric car of the Northeast Oklahoma Railroad at the Mineral Heights crossing, three hours previously. Gordon, the only occupant of the automobile, a new machine, was driving west about 1:45 in the afternoon, when the crash occurred. The Interurban, No. 100, was southbound and was in charge of Conductor C. T. Crawford and Motorman, E. G. Brayman. Gordon apparently saw the electric car, but is believed to have misjudged the powers of the brakes on his car. The machine was demolished. The injured man was rushed in Todd's ambulance to the Picher hospital, where physicians said his skull was fractured and he had other injuries. He did not regain consciousness after the mishap. Gordon lived in west Quapaw. He was employed as a shoveler at the Grace Walker Mine until it closed down last Thursday. Surviving relatives include a daughter, Mrs. Dollie Peterson of Wichita Kansas, two sons, Irvin Gordon, 16 years old, and Andrew Gordon, 14, both of whom lived with their father; and two brothers, John Gordon, of Picher, and L. Gordon, of Sand Springs Oklahoma. Funeral arrangements are being delayed pending receipt of word from the daughter.
