74 year old pioneer Miami businessman, died at his home, 105 A Street northeast, at 7 o'clock this morning following a long illness. Moving to Miami from Webb City Missouri, in 1908, Foster operated the old Coyne Lumber company at 115 East Central avenue, Miami, until his retirement in 1942. He was active in civic affairs during Miami's early years. Foster was interested in lead and zinc mining at Webb City around the turn of the century and remained active in the industry for many years after he established residence here. When the United States entered World War I in 1916, Foster became active in American Red Cross activities. He retained his close association with the Red Cross chapter through World War II, assisting many needy families in this area. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Irma Foster of the home; a son, George Ed Foster, president of the Miami Board of Education, and a granddaughter. Funeral services will be conducted at the Cooper chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Harry W. Curtis, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate. Pallbearers will be Byron Hoffman, Ernest Blessing, John Q. Tidwell, Carl Peck, Floyd Myers and Dr. L. S. Smith. Burial will be in the Webb City cemetery. The family requests no flowers. Contributions in Foster's memory may be made to the Miami Baptist hospital fund.
