News of the death in New York Thursday of Ray W. Evans, first vice-president of the Eagle-Picher Company was received today. Evans' home was in Chicago Illinois. He died Jan 16, 1919, age 48, of heart disease late Thursday afternoon. For many years he was a resident of Joplin Missouri. Concerning him the Joplin Globe has the following: "He became general sales manager of the Picher Oklahoma Company and was serving in that capacity when the company was consolidated with the Eagle Company in June 1916. "His ability and efficiency paved the way for a more responsible position with the consolidated company, and he was elected as first vice-president and sales department manager. His headquarters was in Chicago, where are located the general offices for the big concern. "Mr. Evans was a son of Dr. and Mrs. O. C. Evans, early day residents of Joplin. The family lived at the corner of Fourth Street and Moffet avenue, which side now is occupied by the Olivia apartments. Dr. Evans died several years ago, but Mrs. Evans is residing in Lawrence Kansas Two of Mr. Evans' sisters, Mrs. W. S. Grieson and Miss Agnes Evans, also reside in Lawrence. Another sister is Mrs. Herbert Schnur of Joplin. A brother, S. M. Evans of New York, is second vice-president of the Eagle-Picher Company. "A wife and 11 year old daughter, Eugenia Evans, comprise Mr. Evans' immediate family. Mrs. Evans, before her marriage, was Miss Albert Wetzel of Carthage Missouri. Their home is at No. 9914 Longwood Drive, Chicago. "Mr. Evans had not lived in Joplin for several years. He lived in St. Louis when the Picher general offices were located in that city, and when the Eagle-Picher headquarters was opened in Chicago, he went there to reside. In his new position he became a director and stockholder in the company. He was considered one of the most capable and efficient men in the entire organization."
