Ensworth, Claude

Abstract Data

Picher Oklahoma. Ensworth about 40 years old, a mill employee of the Atlas Mine, east of Picher Oklahoma, was found dead in the float mill there this afternoon. Another employee of the mill found Ensworth a few seconds after he fell to the floor, apparently victim of a heart attack. An ambulance of the Todd undertaking company rushed him to a Picher hospital, but physicians there said that he had probably died before being removed from the mill. Ensworth lived on North Quincy Street in Commerce Oklahoma. He formerly lived in Miami. County attorney Perry Porter and sheriff Dee Watters prepared to conduct a short investigation this afternoon to ascertain whether or not a bruise found on Ensworth's head could have caused his death. The body was taken to the Todd morgue.

Commerce Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at the Catholic church in Miami Oklahoma Wednesday morning. Ensworth, a sludge man at the mill since it started operation four months ago, was found lying just outside the mill on a pond runway by another employee of the mill. He was taken to a Picher hospital, but physicians there said that death had occurred at the time of the heart attack at the mill. A scratch on Ensworth's head caused county attorney Perry Porter and sheriff Dee Watters to conduct a short investigation. According to the physicians who examined the dead man, the scratch was only a minor wound and could not have caused his death. It was believed that the small wound was inflicted when he fell to the floor of the runway. No autopsy of the body was asked by relatives. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. O. J. Ensworth of North Quincy Street; three brothers, Fred Ensworth, Bill Ensworth and Earl Ensworth, all of Commerce, and one sister, Mrs. J. R. Young, also of Commerce. Burial will be in the G.A.R. cemetery, at Miami.
