Abstract Data

of 4301 Main Street, retired hard rock lead and zinc mine operator and father of Otto Enlow, 3524 Joplin avenue, Joplin Missouri, photo engraver for the Joplin Globe and News Herald, died Aug 12, 1941, age 81, at 2:10 o'clock Sunday morning, at St. John's hospital, where he had been a patient since August 3. Born at Waynesville Missouri, March 15, 1870, Mr. Enlow came to Joplin with his parents when he was 5 years old. He became active in mining in the Joplin area when 13 years old and operated several of the best producing mines in the early days. He retired from mining in 1930 to become employed in the city public utilities department. In 1940 he retired to his farm at Seneca Missouri, returning to Joplin in 1948. Mr. Enlow was past noble grand of the Blendville I.O.O.F. lodge and was the last charter member of the lodge. He was a charter member and active in the Izaak Walton League, and contributed to the development of the Izaak Walton lakes. He was a member of the First Methodist church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ottilie Enlow; one other son, Ernest Enlow of St. Louis, formerly employed in the mechanical department of the Globe and News Herald, and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning at the Steve Parker chapel by the Rev. E. W. Love. Burial Aug 14, 1951, in Fairview cemetery. Graveside services will be conducted by the Blendville IOOF lodge. Friends may call at the chapel until the funeral hour. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Schulte, Edward Jones, Emmett Grant, Orville Jackson, Harvey Messick, Frank Burress, Jim Campbell, Joe Dorizzl, Steve Smith, Al Walker and Earl Haymes. Active pallbearers will be Clarence Striegel, Clarence Peters, Ben Ferguson, John Hamm, V. L. Walters and Paul Thornton. There is a photo of Enlow in the article.
