Baxter Springs Kansas. A jury of six men yesterday afternoon rendered the following verdict at the coroner's inquest into the death of Wheeler Elmore, 55 year old mine carpenter, who died Wednesday night in Columbus Kansas hospital as a result of a skull fracture received Saturday night. "The said jurors, on their oath, do say: that the said Wheeler Elmore came to his death by a blow on the head by a hard instrument in the hands of Ben Riley, Colored, on the date, Jan 6, 1934, about 9 pm at Baxter Springs, this jury not being able to say it was done with felonious intent." The jury was composed of Kenneth Trimble, W. M. Mathews, John Entoree, W. Brittle, W. R. Cosairt and Van T. Cavanaugh, foreman. Funeral rites for Mr. Elmore were to be conduced at 2 o'clock this afternoon at the First Christian church, with the Rev. George H. Jones officiating. Burial was to be in Fairview cemetery in Joplin Missouri, with the Harvey undertaking company in charge. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Bertha Elmore; three daughters, Miss Hazel Elmore and Betty Jean Elmore of this city and Mrs. Hugh Campbell of Los Angeles California; and four sons, Mitchell Elmore of Baxter Springs and William David Elmore, John Henry Elmore and Jacob Daniel Elmore at home.
