age 85, of Galena Kansas, died Aug 4, 2000 at his home following an illness. Mr. Dugan was born Jan 18, 1915, at Wentworth Missouri. His parents were Reed Dugan and Joan Hilton Dugan. He was a lifetime resident of Galena Kansas. He was a welder. He worked 20 years in the mines at Picher Oklahoma, until 1957. Then he worked at the Farmers Chemical Company, Joplin Missouri for 20 years, retiring from 1977. Val retired from the Galena Volunteer Fire department, after serving the people of Galena and surrounding area for 37 years. He was a member of First Baptist church, Galena Kansas. His favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing. He was married to Hazel Morris on May 19, 1937, at Joplin Missouri. She survives. Also surviving is one son, Larry W. Dugan, Riverton Kansas; two brothers, Miles Dugan, Galena and Frank Dugan, Joplin Missouri; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth Allen Dugan who died in infancy in 1952, and Gary M. Dugan who died in 1993, and one brother, Harry Dugan. Burial will be Hill Crest cemetery. Derfelt funeral home, Galena. Pallbearers will be Jerry Dugan, Joe Dugan, William Dugan, John Derfelt, Ernie Donaldson, and Leonard Farmer. Members of the Galena Fire Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.
