Zahn L. Douthat, 39 years old, for whom the town of Douthat Oklahoma, was named, died Dec 16, 1921, age 39, at 7:15 o'clock Friday night at his home. Seven weeks ago Douthat sustained a broken knee cap in a fall at a local theater and had been bedfast since. He had suffered from heart disease for four years. Douthat was widely known in Ottawa county Oklahoma. He was born at Paola Kansas, May 24, 1882. The family later moved to a farm on which Douthat Oklahoma, is now located. Five years ago when the Admiralty Mine was discovered on his land he leased the property, acquiring a comfortable income, and moved to Melrose Kansas, where he resided four years. A year ago he removed to Joplin Missouri that his children might be given advantages of Joplin schools. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Agnes Douthat, 14 years old, and Katherine Douthat, 11, and a son, Morton Douthat, 8. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Douthat of near Quapaw Oklahoma. Two sisters, Mrs. Minnie DeVilliers of Baxter Springs Kansas and Mrs. Jessie Davis of Commerce, and a brother, C. A. Douthat of Quapaw, also survive. The family had resided in Joplin about two years. Mr. Douthat owned several farms in southeastern Kansas and northwestern Oklahoma, some of it rich in mineral. He also was interested in several manufacturing enterprises at Quapaw. Funeral services will be conducted from the Catholic church at 9 o'clock Sunday morning. Burial Dec 18, 1921, will be at Columbus Kansas.
