died at 11:35 am Tuesday, Feb 24, 1998, at Maude Norton hospital in Columbus Kansas, after a long illness. He was 73. Mr. Delmont was born Jan 1, 1925, in Miami. He had lived in the Columbus area all of his life. He served in the United States Army from December 1944 to October 1946, in the Pacific theater including the occupation of Japan. He worked in the lead and zinc mines in Ottawa county Oklahoma before going to work for the Kansas State Highway Department where he worked for 35 years before retiring in 1987. Mr. Delmont was a member and past master of the Masonic Lodge, Baxter Springs Kansas. He married Delphia Wheeler on April 24, 1948, in Columbus. She survives. Additional survivors include three sons, Brad Delmont, Martin Delmont and Steven Delmont, all of Columbus Kansas; two daughters, Bonnie Golf, Jane Missouri, and Paulette Harris, New Orleans Louisiana; two brothers, Charlie Delmont, rural Columbus, and Ernest Delmont, Miami; a sister, Betty Gilmore, Baxter Springs Kansas; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, John Orbin Delmont, Robert Delmont, Ralph Delmont, Jack Delmont and Bill Delmont. The service will be 10 am Friday, at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs Kansas with the Rev. Fred Von Moss officiating. Burial will be in the Greenlawn cemetery in Kansas, northwest of Picher Oklahoma and Treece Kansas. Masonic graveside services will be observed. Pallbearer will be Edd Delmont, Larry Delmont, Richard Frank, Jim Delmont, Randy Munson, Danny Delmont, Doug Delmont, and John O. Delmont, Jr.
