Funeral services for Dr. Charles Day, one of the first graduate dentist in Indian Territory and a former Miami mine operator, where held this afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Methodist church at Tulsa Oklahoma. Dr. Day was a partner of Roy Wills of Miami for several years while interested in mines of this district. Doctor Day began his practice of dentistry in Vinita Oklahoma in 1892, later moving to Tulsa for active work in the Oklahoma Dental society until his retirement in 1926. George Provine of Miami is a nephew of Dr. Day. His death this week in Tulsa Oklahoma came after a lingering illness that did not develop seriously until quite recently.

DAY - Wilber Claude Day - Baxter Springs Kansas, died Tuesday, Jul 6, 1999, at Freeman Hospital, Joplin Missouri, after a long illness. He was 82. He was born Dec 30, 1916, in Conway Missouri to Lee Day and Velma MacShane Day. He had lived in Baxter Springs Kansas since 1938. He served with the U.S. Army Coast Artillery, 30th Battalion, Anti-Aircraft P.F.C., in the Aleutian islands during World War II. Following the war, he worked in the Picher Oklahoma mining fields until the closing of the mine in 1956. He then worked at Kipp-Roberts machine shop, Miami, until retirement in 1979, when he started Day's Small Engine Repair in Baxter Springs. Ill health forced him to retire in 1986. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for more than 40 years. He married Myrtle Crotts on March 17, 1944. She survives. Additional survivors include a son and his wife, Rodney Day and Sue Day, Baxter Springs; two grandsons, Clinton Day and Travis Day, both of Baxter Springs, and two great- granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wallace Day and Warren Day; and a sister Vivian David. The service will be 10 am Thursday, at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel, with the Rev. Jim McMechan and the Rev. Gregg Dixon officiating. Burial will be in the Baxter cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Myers, Dean Derryberry, Joe Derryberry, Mike Crotts, Glen Crotts and Harley Sounder. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
