Abstract Data

13 years old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Curtright of Cardin Oklahoma, was drowned late Saturday morning in the mill pond of the Blue Goose Mine, a short distance south of Cardin. Young Curtright, with two companions, went to the pond to swim. The pond, located on the north side of the tailing pile of the mine, is a popular place for a group of Cardin youths to go bathing. Curtright and the other boys were not expert swimmers and when the boy went down they were unable to rescue him from seven feet of water. One of them attracted the attention of a group of men working on a water line nearby. Roy Tuthill, superintendent at the See-Sah Mine, was the one who found the body and brought it to the surface after it had been submerged approximately 30 minutes. An ambulance of the Todd undertaking company was at hand when the rescue occurred, but all efforts to revive the boy failed. The death was the first drowning recorded in this vicinity this summer. Besides the parents he is survived by three sisters, Tressie Curtright, Susie Curtright and Pauline Curtright, all of the home. Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Monday morning. Other arrangements are incomplete. The Lane funeral home is in charge.
