Abstract Data

a minor, was shot and killed by a hold-up man at the Lucky Jew Mine just across the Kansas line at Picher Oklahoma Monday night when he was slow putting up his hands. Three bandits, two of them masked, held up 25 miners in a shack at the mine, lined them up against the wall and went through their pockets. They got between $50 and $100 and escaped. Cox was standing in the middle of the room when the two bandits entered. The third hold-up man had been visiting with the miners and was in the group. He pulled a revolver when his two confederates entered and aided them. "Put em up boys, and line up with your faces to that wall," one of the highwaymen ordered. Cox did not obey the command instantly. The unmasked man cursed him and fired point blank. The miner fell dead at the first shot. The three men then searched each of the 25 men lined up against the wall and took all their cash. After pocketing the cash they warned the miners not to follow them or give the alarm and stepped out a side door in the darkness. The hold - up took place at 1:30 o'clock this morning. The sheriff of Cherokee county and the coroner were called to the scene. Searching parties failed to find any trace of the bandits. It is believed they escaped in a Ford car. The unmasked man who killed Cox had visited the mine Sunday night and came again last night. If caught he can be easily identified.
