Abstract Data

The body of Sergeant William R. Cotter, Treece Kansas, who was killed in combat while serving with the Army in the Aleutian Islands on Nov 23, 1943, has arrived in Picher Oklahoma for final rites and re-burial. A hard rock lead and zinc miner before entering the service, Sergeant Cotter was 23 years old at the time of his death. He enlisted in the armed forces in May 1942. He is survived by his father, William P. Cotter of Joplin Missouri; three brothers Paul Cotter, Jr., of Picher, Donald E. Cotter and Jackie E. Cotter, both of Joplin, and two sisters, Patricia June Cotter and Mrs. Mary Schach, both of Joplin. The Picher American Legion post will be in charge of funeral services. Final arrangements will be announced by Goodson-Durnil funeral home, Picher.

Funeral services for Sergeant William R. Cotter will be held at the Goodson-Durnil chapel at 1 pm Sunday. Sergeant Cotter will be re-buried in the old cemetery at Columbus Kansas.
