39 year old independent mine operator and member of the Picher Oklahoma Board of Education, died unexpectedly in Picher hospital at 2 am Saturday shortly after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage at his home at 435 South Francis Street. He was a resident of the Tri-State district for the past 31 years. Apparently in good health, Cobb worked his usual shift at the Zincville Mining Company's lease near Picher Friday and did not complain of illness when he returned for the night. He was taken to the hospital in a Thomas funeral home ambulance after collapsing in his bedroom. A graduate of Picher high school with the class of 1934. Cobb attended Northeastern A & M college and completed a bookkeeping course at the Miami Business college. He was a member of the Baptist church, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias lodges. A Democrat, Cobb was an unsuccessful candidate for the office of Ottawa county commissioner from the Northern district in 1952. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dortha Cobb, and a daughter, Elaine Louise Cobb, both of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carrol Best; a sister, Mrs. Louise Curlee, and a half-brother, Claude Best, all of Picher. Funeral services will be in G.A.R. cemetery at Miami, under direction of the Thomas funeral home. The body will lie in state at the family home from 6 pm Monday until the funeral hour.
