Funeral services for Clodis Joe Cates, a former resident of the Tri-State district, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Christian church in Baxter Springs Kansas. Cates died Jan 6, 1956, age 47, Friday morning at his home in Pryor Oklahoma. Cates lived in Picher Oklahoma and Baxter Springs until two years ago when he moved to Pryor. He attended school in Picher and worked in the hard rock lead and zinc mines while living in Picher. He was a member of Masonic lodge No. 71 of Baxter and a member of the Baxter Christian church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ruby Cates, of the home; his mother, Mrs. Ethel DeVasure, Tekemah Nebraska; his step-father, Clarence DeVasure, Tekemah; a brother, Rex Cates, Tekemah, and two sisters, Mrs. Zelma Wolfe, Tekemah, and Mrs. Lucille Nichols, Colorado Springs Colorado. The Rev. Taylor Davis, Galena Kansas, will officiate. He will be assisted by the Rev. L. D. Keithley, Joplin Missouri. Burial Jan 9, 1956, will be in G.A.R. cemetery at Miami, under the direction of the Green funeral home, Pryor Oklahoma. The Baxter lodge will conduct graveside services.
