Canada, Jim
Abstract Data
Picher Oklahoma. Jim Canada, hoisterman at a hard rock lead and zinc mine shaft southeast of Douthat Oklahoma, escaped injury today when a 35 foot derrick, repaired after being blown over during a tornado more than a month ago, again toppled to the ground. Dirt being dumped at the shaft broke the timbers supporting the hoist. Canada jumped when the derrick started to topple and landed on the pile of dirt underneath. The derrick was wrecked. A Todd ambulance answered a call to the shaft before it became known Canada was not hurt. At the time of the earlier collapse Canada had been gone from the derrick only a few minutes when the tornado wrecked it. The shaft is being operated by Tom Brewer of Douthat. Canada, 37 years old, also lives in Douthat.
