Research Notes: Note: On Apr 12, 1943, Pg. 3, Col. 4, There is an article that George Albert Butcher, 39 years old, died in the state prison on the 10th after serving about two years of a 25 year sentence for the killing of Jess "Slim" Keener, a bartender in the Walker Tap room. Butcher is survived by two sisters, Mrs. May Thornhill of Reddings, California, and Mrs. Nellie Romhilt of Picher. The body was brought to the Durnil funeral home, Picher. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Note: This may, or may not be the same man, but dates match up.

Abstract Data

Two bandits held up George Butcher, a Picher Oklahoma hard rock lead and zinc miner, near the Northeast Oklahoma railroad station early last night, knocked him on the head with the butt of a revolver and robbed him of $20. Butcher, 18 years old, living in the northwest part of Picher, was unconscious and lay on the ground about a half hour before he regained his senses. He staggered to the home of Ed E. Spencer, at the corner of A Street and Vantage Street, Picher Oklahoma, where the robbery was reported to the police. The youth was taken to the office of a physician, where he was given medical treatment, after which he was taken home. Butcher was returning home when he was accosted by the two men. He is an employee of the Howe Mine Company.
