Abstract Data

Funeral services for J. J. Buergey, Sr., pioneer drilling contractor, will be conducted at the Church of Christ at 2 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Morton Woodward will officiate. Pallbearers will be Harry Cole and Lloyd Cole, Admiral Evans, Delmar Andrews, Alvin Hunter and Velt Turner. Burial Jul 24, 1952, will be in G.A.R. cemetery at Miami, under direction of the Cooper funeral home of Miami. A resident of this area for the last 44 years, Buergey, died Jul 21, 1952, age 81, at his home at 2:20 p.m. Monday, following an extended illness. Buergey, one of the first drilling contractors to operate in the Tri-State district hard rock lead and zinc mining field, retired from active business about 20 years ago. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Emma Buergey of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Nellie Mills of North Miami and Mrs. Mildred Means of Los Angeles California; four sons, Harley Buergey of Jacksonville Florida, Earl Buergey and Fred Buergey, both of the home, and J. J. Buergey, Jr., of Miami; a sister, Mrs. Mary Merrell of Jasper Missouri; 10 grandchildren and nine great- grand children.
