Amerillis Brookshire wrote a book of original poems titled "Memories of the Mining Days," as a memorial to her father, Bruce Brookshire, a hard rock lead and zinc miner. He migrated from his home near Rolla Missouri to the mining area when he was a boy of sixteen. He was one of the original hard rock miners who helped to build the mining boom towns and worked in many of the lead mines which existed in the Tri-State area.
