Abstract Data
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Black, 603 North Francis Street, Picher Oklahoma, returned Friday from Denver Colorado where they attended the funeral of Mr. Black's father, V. C. Black, age 72. The elder Black was one of the first hoistermen to work in the Picher mining field when the Picher Mine No. 1 shaft was opened in 1915. He worked with George Potter and Clint Niday at Picher Mine Shaft No. 9 later. He left in 1921, going to Colorado, where he remained until his death. He died as the result of paralysis. Burial was last Wednesday, Sep 16, 1936, in Denver. Besides his son in Picher, one other son survives, Ralph Black of Tulsa Oklahoma.
