W. D. Barnett, a mining engineer who retired in 1955, died unexpectedly at 8:15 am today at his home on Commerce road at the age of 74. He succumbed to a heart attack. A resident of Commerce more than 50 years, Mr. Barnett is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lorene Barnett, of the home a half-mile south of Commerce; three daughters, Evelyn Wyrick of Arlington Texas, Helen Calhoun and Ruth Boswell, both of Long Beach California; two sons, Bill Barnett and Gerald Barnett, both of Long Beach; a step-daughter; Norene Nedeau of Wichita Kansas and a step-son Willard Mills, Wichita; two sisters, Marguerite Sullivan of Hayward California, and another whose identity was not immediately available, and two grandchildren.

Final rites will be held Friday...Mr. Barnett, 74 year old retired mining engineer, died Tuesday after suffering a heart attack at his home near Commerce...pallbearers will be Tom Bybee, Bob Eddins, Herman Corbus and Bussie Corbus, Lee Phelps and Cecil Smith.
