Funeral services for James Roscoe Ballard, one-time member of the state mine inspector's staff and pioneer resident of this area, will be conducted in the Bernice Oklahoma church at 2 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Gene Daley and the Rev. Harold Leveridge will officiate. Burial will be in the Ballard cemetery at Bernice Oklahoma, under direction of the Worley funeral home of Grove Oklahoma. Mr. Ballard, 74, died in his home Friday after an illness of several months. He had been a member of the Methodist church in Bernice since boyhood. Born in Bernice Indian Territory on Dec 13, 1881, Mr. Ballard was a member of one of the oldest families in Northeastern Oklahoma. He was graduated from the Indian Seminary of Tahlequah while Oklahoma was still Indian Territory, with the class of 1904. Before moving to Grove about six years ago, Mr. Ballard resided in Oklahoma City for 14 years while working in the state mine inspector's office there. Prior to 1935, he lived for several years in Jay Oklahoma where he was a land deed and tax consultant. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mable Ballard of the home; two brothers, John Ballard, Quapaw Oklahoma, and Claude Ballard of Oklahoma City; a foster daughter, Mrs. Jacqueline Kolb Oklahoma City, and three grandchildren.
