Homer Lee Baker, 65 years old, Lowell Kansas, died at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon in Baxter Springs Kansas Memorial hospital, where he had been a patient seven weeks. Born Jan 1, 1902, near Joplin Missouri. Mr. Baker had lived in Lowell two years, moving from Jefferson City Tennessee, where he had been employed as a mill foreman for the American Lead and Zinc Mining Company. From 1954 until 1958, Mr. Baker had served as mayor of Commerce. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 478, Picher Oklahoma, and the First Christian church, Commerce. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Peggy Long, San Jose California; a brother, O. E. Baker, Commerce; a sister, Mrs. Gladys Peal, Lowell; his step-mother, Mrs. Clara Baker, Quapaw Oklahoma; a stepson, Fred Winter, Columbus Kansas; two step-sisters, Mrs. Ruth Ferris, Quapaw and Mrs. Ralph Cornelison, Burlington Washington; a step-brother, Lloyd Hilburn, Sonoma California; and four grandchildren.
