age 65 years old, former supervising engineer of the U.S. Geological survey, died yesterday in an Albuquerque New Mexico Veterans' hospital. Widely known in the Tri-State Mining district, Mr. Ageton was the leader in emphasizing safety devices for the lead and zinc miners. His were the ideas that molded into general such as the steel hat and the widespread manufacture of desk plaques image of a hard rock lead and zinc miner on which these words were inscribed, "For Pete's Sake, Prevent Accidents." He originated the "Accident Prevention Pete" symbol. The engineer came to Miami in 1923. After serving one year with the Geological survey, he became safety director of the Tri-State Zinc and Lead Ore Producers association. He was associated with Julian Conover, then secretary of the organization...While employed by the Ore Producers Association, he inaugurated statistical reports on lost-time accidents and introduced a policy of recognizing mines who reported no losses of hours from serious mishaps to workers...
