Miami, died at 5:05 p.m. Wednesday, Sep 13, 2000, at his home, after battling lung cancer for nine months. He was 73. He was born Oct 18, 1926, in Rockford Illinois, to Harry Adams and Orva Adams. He was a graduate of Kansas University. He moved to Miami in 1951. Mr. Adams worked as a chemical engineer for Eagle-Picher Company. He started at the Central Mill, Cardin Oklahoma, and became plant manager of the Rare Metals Plant, Quapaw Oklahoma; and vice president of the Speciality Materials Division. He retired in 1992 after 41 years. He received the Engineering Excellence award in 1993 in recognition of his contribution to the conversion of germanium from electronic materials to high quality infrared optical material. He was known as "Mr. Germanium" to his associates. Since his retirement, Mr. Adams was active in the Miami Senior Center, serving as president and board member and organizing a computer club. He served on the board of directors of Hearts n Hammers. He was very involved in the Episcopal church, serving as choir member, senior warden, and convention delegate many times. He was also active at the diocesan level. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling, making wine, gardening, and recently, researching his family genealogy. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Marylyn Adams; four children, Nancy Wallen, Dallas Texas, David Adams, Worcester Massachusetts, Rick Adams, San Jose California, Janey Waters, Tulsa Oklahoma; a brother, Robert Adams, New Orleans Louisiana; and six grandchildren, Adam Smith and Jesse Smith, Kristopher Adams and Kyle Adams, and Sean Waters and Jessica Waters. The service is 11 a.m. Saturday, at All Saints Episcopal Church, Miami. Memorials may be made to the All Saints Memorial Fund, the American Cancer Society, or to Integris Regency Hospice.
