died age 35 yesterday at 5 pm at his home, 404 So. Main St. Picher, Oklahoma. He had been in falling health for several months, and was a pioneer resident of Picher, coming there 12 years ago from Carterville, Missouri, and spending most of his stay in the caf� and hotel business...Mr. Hess figured in a heroic episode on the firing line in France when he took command of a leaderless company and the boys went of the top in spite of the fact that all but 10 of the 172 men of the unit were killed. Burial under direction of the Green undertaking co. of Picher.
