Headlines: MINER KILLED ON FIRST DAY AT JOB: Picher, OK. Aug 2, 1927: Tragedy stalked James M. Clark, age 30, today as he entered the Fort Worth Hard Rock Lead and Zinc Mine of the G. L. Childress Lead and Zinc Co. at Douthat Oklahoma for his first day on the job. Less than two hours after going to work as a shoveler, Clark met death under a falling slab weighing several tons. His body was badly crushed and death was instantaneous. Clark lived in the Mineral Heights addition. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Della Clark; two sons, Troy and James of the home, and three daughters, Mrs. Cleo Moore of Ira, Missouri and Misses Genevieve and Jewel Clark of the home. Also surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Galey Clark , who live in Oklahoma. No funeral arrangements have been made as yet. Todd undertaking company will be in charge. Note: Burial was in the Zion Cemetery, Laclede County, Missouri.
