died, age 78. Niles Brown, resident of Miami for the last 40 years, died at 10:30 o'clock this morning, Aug 30, 1927, at the family home, 104 I C St. SW, Miami Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Brown; six sons, Hank Brown of Tulsa, Guy Brown of Atchison, Kansas, Arthur Brown of Wyandotte, Oklahoma and Lou, Tone B. and Dave Brown, of Miami, and three daughters, Mrs. Delta Waddell of Miami, Mrs. Alta McGlosson of Austin, Texas, and Mrs. Anna Hogan of Vankin, Texas. Funeral services will be hold at the home at 2 o'clock Wednesday Aug 30th with burial in G. A. R. Cemetery with the Cooper Undertakers of Miami. Old friends of Mr. Brown recalled today that he was one of the first men to settle on the present site of Miami and that he worked on the first building erected. During his first winter in this about 1887 Oklahoma Indian Territory, described by old settlers as the coldest in Miami's history. Watery, Mr, Brown lived in a tent and built a room of baled hay to keep out the cold, they recalled. He served as city marshal at one time.
