Miamian Ends Life With Gun.
Clinton Rader, age 33, Shoots Himself - Despondent, Wife Says. Rader blew the top of his head off in the back yard of his home at 132 I St NW, Miami Oklahoma at 12:45 this afternoon. Mrs. Rader said her husband had been subject to periods of despondency since an operation about a year ago. He was employed by the Cities Service Gas Company at Commerce Oklahoma and drove home for lunch in a company automobile. His job was to inspect the company lines and keep the pressure equalized in the distribution. His wife said he was in one of his fits of melancholia at noon and ask her to pack his clothes, asserting that he was going to leave the home. Mrs. Rader told investigators, after the shooting, that she did not dissent to her husband's request believing it better to humor him when he was in that mood. She always tried to prevent agitating her husband when he was despondent, she declared. Shortly after saying he was leaving home Rader shot himself. Mrs. Rader had gone to the chicken lot at the rear of the premises. He followed her out of the house and his words, "You've never head this shotgun, but you're going to hear it now," giving the first intimation to the wife that he intended self-destruction. Placing the 12-gauge shotgun over his right ear, Rader pulled the trigger, almost decapitating himself. A Cooper ambulance was called and also two doctors, but Rader died before he was removed from the spot where he fell with the shotgun beside him. He lived about five minutes... Beside his wife, Mrs. Lilly Rader, he is survived by three children: Lorene, Earline and Raymond Rader. He is also survived by his mother Sally Taylor of Independence Missouri; two brothers and seven sisters.
