Picher Oklahoma: Jul 17, 1931, Leslie Rowden, age 33, a hard rock lead and zinc miner, and his stepdaughter, Crystal Blunk, of near Treece Kansas, were drowned early last night in the mill pond of the Webber Mine, about half a mile east of their home, where Mr. and Mrs. Rowden, their four children and the Blunk girl were bathing. The girl was wading in shallow water, but stepped off into a hole about 10 feet deep. Hearing her screams, Rowden went to her aid, but her struggles carried both into the deep water and they were drowned.
