Died. Born Aug 16, 1871, Missouri. Died May 23, 1930, age 59, Miami Oklahoma. Father Orson Pratt Sutherland, born New York. Mother America Bird Sutherland Spouse Maud J. Reed Sutherland, married Oct 31, 1894 in Joplin Missouri. Brother of George R. is America Bird Sutherland. Cooper funeral home, Miami Oklahoma.
George R. Sutherland was a pioneer powderman of the Tri-State Hard Rock Lead and Zinc Mining District and died at his home in Miami Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife, three sons, one daughter, one sister and one foster son. Funeral services will be held May 25, 1930 in the G.A.R. Cemetery. Mr. Sutherland is regarded as one of Miami's pioneers, having arrived in Miami in 1910, died at this home, 16 Fifth Avenue NW, Miami at noon Friday. Mr. Sutherland spent most of his life as an agent for powder companies, serving in the Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma lead and zinc ming fields in the order of their discovery. Pallbearers till be George Rice, Charles Ellis, Joe Hutts, Talbert Taylor, H. J. Butcher and J. M. Robards Burial May 25, 1930, G.A.R. cemetery, Miami.
